About Karnal District 
It is believed that Karnal was earlier known as `Karnalya', which was founded by Raja Karna, the eldest son of Kunti. Thus, the city got its name as `Karnalya' which later changed into Karnal. Karnal became one of the districts of Haryana state on 1st November, 1966. 

Location and Territories
It is a part of Karnal division. It is surrounded by Kurukshetra district in the North, Yamunanagar in the North-East, Uttar Pradesh in the East, Panipat and Jind district in the South and Kaithal district in the West. The Yamuna river flows on the Eastern side of this district. 

Karnal is Famous For 
This district is known as 'Rice Bowl' of Haryana due to its rice production. Important industries of this district are Liberty Shoes Limited, Chamanlal Setia Export, etc. The district also has National Dairy Research Institute. After the name of Kalpana Chawla, the Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College was established in the district. Important tourist places are Karna Lake, Oasis (Uchana), Devi Temple and so on.
