About Kaithal District 
The ancient name of Kaithal was `Kapisthal which means Abode of Kapil'. It is believed that Hanuman was born in this place. According to Puranas, this place was founded by Yudhishthira, the head of Pandavas. Earlier, it was a part of Kurukshetra district. It was carved out as a district of Haryana from erstwhile Kurukshetra on 1st November, 1989. 

Location and Territories 
It is a part of Karnal division. It is surrounded by Punjab in the North and West, Kurukshetra and Karnal districts in the East and Jind district in the South and South-West. Ghaggar, Markanda and Saraswati are its important rivers. 

Kaithal is Famous For 
It is known as 'City of Gurdwaras'. Important tourists places are Gurdwara Neem Sahib, 9 Kunds, Palace of Pihowa, Hanuman Mandir, Ancient Bricks Temple, Ancient Baoli, Tomb of Razia Sultan, Vidyakar Teerth, Anjani Teela and so on. The district is also known as Choti Kashi due to the presence of 'Nav Grah Kund ( 9 Kund )
